International Conference Music, Networks and Nationalism: Ideals of Identity in Epistolary Communication

Spanish Version

The research project “Music, Networks, and Nationalism: Analyzing the Restoration Consciousness through the Correspondence of Eduardo López-Chavarri Marco (1871-1970)” [CIGE/2023/055], with María Ordiñana Gil (Universidad Internacional de Valencia-VIU) as the principal investigator, announces the celebration of an international conference to be held in Valencia (Spain) at the headquarters of the General Society of Authors and Publishers (SGAE) on September 25 and 26, 2025.

The congress will be a meeting of national and international experts to analyze the correspondences and interpersonal networks that were generated between composers, musicians and other agents involved in the invention and dissemination of Spanish music in the 19th and 20th centuries. The central axis is Eduardo López-Chavarri Marco, who is presented as a mediator between the popular and the representation of Valencian identity.

The congress will focus on epistolaries, reconstructions of social networks, research on agents, practices and themes shared in the letters and also studies on music and nationalism from historical, cultural and comparative approaches. The conference also explores innovation in musicological research, through a dialogue with the Digital Humanities (SNA – Social Network Analysis).
